PHILADELPHIA, PA. - The College of Charleston softball team improved to 7-4 in CAA play with 6-1 and 3-2 victories over Drexel on Friday in Philadelphia. The Cougars have now won five straight conference games, the longest streak since the 2017 season.
After the Dragons scored their only run in the first inning of the first game, Malaka Belser tied the game with a RBI single up the middle in the third.
Shealyn Starks and Mary-Kathryn Scott each homered in the fifth to make it a 3-1 lead. Ella Campbell then drove in a fourth run for insurance the next inning. Scott hit a two-run shot in the seventh inning to seal the win.
The Cougars had a season best 15 hits and three home runs in the win.
Starks continued her dominant 5-for-8 day at the plate when she drove in the tying run in the third frame of game two. The Dragons responded with a solo shot the next inning, but an error allowed the Cougars to tie the game once again.
Sierra Paradis hit a leadoff homer in the top of the seventh inning to clinch the win, marking her first career long ball and a three-game hitting streak for the rookie.
Caroline Conner earned the win, striking out a career-best nine along the way.
