
Charleston Falls in First Two of Eagle Invitational

CHARLESTON, S.C. --- College of Charleston volleyball fell in their two Friday matches to open the Eagle Invitational, 3-0 to Stetson and 3-1 to the host Georgia Southern.
Charleston handed Georgia Southern their first set loss of the season in the nightcap but fell in three back-and-forth sets to close the day after falling in all three to Stetson.
Lexi Wierzbicki led the way offensively with 29 kills on the day – 21 against the Eagles – while Sofie Vogel, Olivia Mae Van Der Werff, Sopheea Mink and Anna Smith all added double-digit kills.
Charleston and Stetson traded runs throughout the first and third sets but a 3-0 spurt after Charleston had tied it at 22-all pushed the Hatters to the 3-0 win.
Friday's finale saw Charleston hit .380 in the first set battling for a 28-26 win and 1-0 lead before Georgia Southern battled back for three set wins behind a balanced attack with four players landing double figure kills.

Match Notes
- Sofie Vogel made it back-to-back matches with 10-plus kills putting down a team-best 10 versus Stetson. She finished the day with 17 on 36 swings and reached 100 career blocks in the third set Friday night.
- Wierzbicki put down 21 for the first 20-kill performance from a Cougar in 2023. She added 12 digs for her second double-double of the week.
- Hannah Scott had 40 assists in the second match, the first Cougar to reach the 40 mark this season. Scott's previous personal best was 24 in a sweep of Le Moyne last weekend.
- Sopheea Mink finished one kill shy of a double-double as she had a career-best 12 digs against Georgia Southern.
- Charleston took the opening set for a fifth time this season and second that went past regulation (28-26).
