
Freshmen Show Out in Second SAISA Win of the Fall

CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The College of Charleston sailing team got a strong performance from a crew of freshman on home waters over the weekend to claim a second SAISA win in as many weeks.
Jon Ciffilillo, Andrea Melnik, Dillon Garcia and Clara Murphy posted 28 points across A and B Divisions in the SAISA North Top 6 Invite for a 45-point dominant win. The Cougars posted podium finishes in every rotation between both divisions and won exactly half of the day's races.
Down in Florida, Benjamin Dufour took home first in the SAISA Open Singlehanded Championship with 8 points taking first place in six of the seven rotations and only finishing second once. Dufour was joined on the podium by Ethan Homberger, who posted 38 points. Elliot Raison finished fourth with 43 points and Lawson Levine finished sixth with 48 points giving the Cougars four sailors among the field's top-six. With his dominant win, Dufour qualified for the Singlehanded Nationals set for November 11-12.
On the women's side, all three Cougars finished among the top-six as well led by Fredrikke Foss who placed third with 35 points. Rowan Schanley finished fifth with 43 points and Emma Tallman finished sixth with 47 points.
