Two School Records, Pair of Event Wins Cap Off Carolina Challenge

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Rhian Purves set an individual school record and was part of another in the distance medley relay, and Kinsley Allen and Cayden Crismon won event titles on the final day of the Carolina Challenge.
Purves, who entered the meet ranked second in school history in the 800, moved into the top spot with a time of 2:12.62 to break a 12-year-old Charleston mark. Later in the day she teamed with Savannah Stoutt, Kaitlynn Bailey and Sydney Peer to post a record time of 12:00.88 in the DMR.
Stoutt also starred in the 800, finishing in 2:16.01 to move into fourth in Charleston annals. Purves was second and Stoutt was fifth in the invite section of the event.
Allen won the open high jump with a mark of 1.63m (5'4 ¼") and moved up from eighth to a tie for fourth in school history. Crismon won the invite 5000 in 17:29.09 to lower her fourth-place time in the record book, and Maeve Gimbert entered the top 10 in ninth place with a time of 18:08.52.
Hannah Wise also joined the record book in the mile, taking over ninth place with her time of 5:07.45.
The Cougars are off next weekend before sending athletes to both the South Carolina Invite and VMI Winter Relays on February 2-3.
