Cross Country Teams Make First of Two Straight Trips to Elon

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston cross country team makes the first of two straight trips to Elon, N.C., on Friday to compete in the Phoenix Invitational.
The men's 8k race is at 9 a.m. followed by the women's 6k at 10 a.m. In addition to the Cougars and host Phoenix, the field includes CAA members Campbell and NC A&T as well as NC State, UNCG and VCU.
The course will also be the site of the CAA Championships on November 1.
Sophia Brown looks to continue her outstanding senior season after leading the Cougars in all three meets so far this fall. Freshmen Caroline Himstreet and Jeorgi Gavalas made their debuts two weeks ago at the Pirate Invitational and were among the Charleston scorers.
Savannah Stoutt and Cayden Crismon have also been consistent scorers for the Cougars heading into the homestretch of the season.
The men's team has had three athletes finish first among their teammates, most recently freshman Andrew Catapano at the Pirate Invitational. Fellow freshman Justin Bevacqua paced the team at the Buccaneer Invitational, and graduate student Jackson Reid topped the Cougars at the Firetower Project.
