Men's Basketball Returns Home to Face Tribe

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston men's basketball team hosts William & Mary in a nationally televised contest on Monday, February 19 at TD Arena. Action is set for 8:00 p.m. on CBS Sports Network.

STORYLINES
  • Charleston is currently atop the CAA standings with a 10-3 league record and is looking for the program's 20th win of the season on Monday, having won four straight contests.
  • The Cougars defeated the Tribe 84-83 in the first meeting between the programs this season in Williamsburg. Ben Burnham recorded his third 20-plus performance of the season with seven rebounds in the tightly matched game that featured two half-court buzzer beaters from the Tribe to end both halves. Reyne Smith contributed ten points followed by Frankie Policelli, Ante Brzovic, Bryce Butler and James Scott with eight each.
  • The win marked Charleston's second all-time win in Kaplan Arena. The first was Pat Kelsey's first visit as head coach on February 3, 2022. Charleston holds the all-time 11-9 series edge and is 8-1 at home.
  • Smith moved into second all-time in career three-pointers made (259) at Charleston in the Cougars' 77-73 victory at Northeastern on Thursday. He was one three away entering the game and went 6-10 from behind the arc.
  • Charleston ranks seventh in the nation in bench points per game (14.7), 14th in rebounds per game (40.50), third in three-point attempts per game (31.7), and ninth in threes made per game (10.4). CJ Fulton leads the country in assist/ turnover ratio (4.65). He has dished out 107 total assists with just 23 turnovers. His last turnover was on Feb. 3 at William & Mary
LAST TIME OUT VS. WILLIAM & MARY
  • Policelli and Fulton put the Cougars on the board early with back-to-back makes from behind the arc before the hot shooting Tribe went 8-for-10 from the field to force a Cougar timeout down 21-12. Three straight triples from Smith, Burnham and Khalil London pushed an 11-0 run to erase a nine-point deficit to put Charleston up 36-33 with 3:33 remaining in the first half. A half-court shot at the buzzer helped the Tribe enter the locker room up 44-41. Butler had a team-high eight points at the half. Charleston shot 50% from the field in the frame while W&M went 60%.
  • The Tribe opened the second half with a three-pointer before Charleston went on a 12-0 run highlighted by seven points from Burnham to take a 53-47 edge. Burnham went on an 8-0 run with 11 minutes remaining to give Charleston their largest lead of the game at 65-58. The Cougars held a 79-71 lead with 30 seconds remaining. Back-to-back W&M triples made it a one possession game at 79-77 with 16 seconds to play. Clutch free-throws from Smith, London  and Brzovic helped seal the thrilling victory.
