
Women's Golf Takes Second at Spartan Sun Coast Invitational

SARASOTA, Fla. - After a rainy opening round, the College of Charleston women's golf team took home second place at the Spartan Sun Coast Invitational hosted by Michigan State. The loaded field featured 11 current top-75 teams, including No. 24 North Carolina, No. 26 Purdue, No. 31 Michigan State, No. 38 Tennessee, No. 41 Miami, No. 47 Ohio State, No. 53 Oklahoma, No. 55 Kent State, No. 61 NC State, No. 66 Nebraska, and No. 67 Charleston. The Cougars finished just two strokes behind champion Ohio State.
"What a fun day of golf! We finished strong and made it interesting for Ohio State at the end," said head coach Jamie Futrell. "Second is a great finish in this field.Congrats to Emily on a special round and congrats to the team for enjoying the competition."
Emily Dunlap finished T8 after a 5-under final round, the second best individual round of the day. The 67 round ties her career low round that she set as a freshman. Dunlap recorded six birdies during the round, including back-to-back on 3 and 4 as well as 15 and 16 to climb 21 spots from her day one finish.
Emma Schimpf matched Dunlap's T8 finish with a 1-under round.
The Cougars led the field in total birdies with 31 throughout the tournament.
Charleston returns to action on March 2 in Gainesville, Florida at the Gators Invitational Presented by Vystar
