CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston opens its 2024 outdoor season this Friday and Saturday at the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium.
Charleston is coming off a very successful indoor season highlighted by Luzy Lieger being crowned CAA champion in pole vault, Kaitlynn Bailey breaking and resetting multiple school records in the 60, 200 and 300 and several changes in the top ten annals.
Other athletes to keep an eye out for this season include Tonet Tallie and Madison Jent, who finished third and sixth, respectively, at CAAs in the pole vault. Emily Kreek scored in the heptathlon at last year's conference outdoor meet and ranks fourth in school history.
On the mid-distance side, look for Rhian Purves who enters the outdoor season ranked second in the 1500 and third in the 800 and is within a two second striking distance of overtaking first for both.
From the distance group, Cayden Crismon and Sophia Brown are fifth and seventh, respectively, in the 5000, and both are also in the top 10 in the 3000. Abby Fush is the top returning jumper, currently placing seventh in the long jump and eighth in the triple jump.
This meet is the first of nine for the track and field team, culminating with the CAA Championships in early May in Elon, N.C.
