Men's Golf Victorious at CAA Championship

SAINT HELENA ISLAND, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's golf team set a new CAA Championship record at 35-under to secure the program's seventh CAA title on Tuesday at the Dataw Island Club.

The Cougars entered the day four strokes behind Elon. Charleston surged ahead of the competition during the final round, winning by seven strokes over the Phoenix. The title is the third for the Cougars under head coach Mitch Krywulycz.

Kieron van Wyk and Zach Reuland tied for the individual medalist honors, marking the second individual title for both golfers. van Wyk last won in 2022 while Reuland took the title in 2021. They tied the tournament record set by their own previous winning performances at Dataw Island.

The duo finished 13-under to share the title. Reuland played a six-birdie final round with an eagle. He led the field with 18 birdies over three rounds.

van Wyk posted a bogey-free round with four birdies.  He posted just two bogeys during the entire tournament.

Max Dupree finished in ninth (-3) while Nevill Ruiter joined the top ten at T10 (-2). Ruiter climbed 18 spots on the final day of play to finish within the top ten.

Rookie Loran Appel finished T14 (-1) at his first championship. All five Cougars were under par in the final standings, the only school to do so.

The Cougars advance to the NCAA Regionals and will find out their destination on Wednesday, May 1 at 2:00 p.m. on the Golf Channel.
