Cougars Host CofC Invitational

CHARLESTON, S.C – College of Charleston hosts its second tournament of the season, beginning Friday, Sept. 13. The Cougars welcome Middle Tennessee, Robert Morris and Utah Tech to the Holy City for the CofC Invitational. Charleston's first game of the weekend will be against the Trailblazers at 7 p.m. Admission all weekend is free of charge.

During Friday's match, fans can enter a raffle to win exclusive CofC prizes. 13 winners will be chosen and announced throughout the night.

WEEKEND SCHEDULE:

Friday, Sept. 13: vs. Utah Tech at 7 p.m.
Saturday, Sept. 14: vs. Robert Morris 11 a.m.
Saturday., Sept. 14: vs. MTSU 7 p.m.

OPENING SERVE:

Charleston lost in straight sets to South Carolina Tuesday evening in Columbia.
Lauren Fowler made her first collegiate start, recording four kills and an assist.
Allie Holland tallied her 700th career kill in the setback after recording one solo block and three block assists.
Holland's 404 career block assists are the eighth-most in the nation amongst active Division I players. The graduate's 1.23 career blocks per set is good for 11th amongst active players.
Emily Banitt is 64th in the nation amongst active Division I players with 1,123 kills. Banitt recorded 1,047 across four seasons at Loyola Chicago, including 292 during her junior season. In 2024, Banitt leads the Cougars with 76 kills.
Charleston holds a 168-62 record inside TD Arena, a .730 winning percentage.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS:

Utah Tech won both games in the Gonzaga Tournament, beating Cal State Fullerton in straight sets and coming from behind to beat Gonzaga in five. Kennedi Knudsen has 14-plus kills in four of the five matches, leading the team with 74. Defensively, Casidy Fried has 26 total blocks.
Robert Morris is 3-3 heading into the CofC Invitational. The Colonials beat Coppin State, 3-2, in the first game last weekend, before losing to Niagara, 3-0, and Duquesne, 3-1. Middle blocker Azra Eric is sixth in the country with 40 total blocks and 12th with 1.6 blocks per set.
Middle Tennessee enters the weekend 2-4, having split its four-match home tournament. The Blue Raiders won the middle games, defeating Southeast Missouri in five sets and Austin Peay in straight sets. Adriana Rhoda paces the offense with 77 kills while Emma Nilson has 22 blocks.

SERIES HISTORY:

CofC plays Utah Tech for the first time in program history, rounding out the four schools the Cougars had never faced prior to the 2024 campaign.
Charleston is 1-0 all-time against Robert Morris, capturing a 3-0 victory Aug. 5, 2008, at the Stetson Invitational in DeLand, Fla.
The Cougars are 0-2 when playing Middle Tennessee, having lost 3-1 in the first meeting on Sept. 3, 1999, in Murfreesboro, Tenn., and in five sets on Aug. 30, 2003, in Charleston.

UP NEXT:

Charleston closes out its homestand with a midweek match against Charleston Southern on Tuesday, Sept. 17. Opening serve from TD Arena is scheduled for 6 p.m., which serves as Hometown Hero Appreciation Night. Admission to the contest is free of charge.
