CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's basketball team moved to 2-0 in CAA play with a 77-69 win over Towson on Saturday afternoon at TD Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Charleston scored six early fastbreak points to force a Towson timeout 90 seconds into the contest. The Cougars pushed the lead to 13-6 after a Derrin Boyd trey before falling cold, going 0-4 from the field during a two-minute stretch to allow the Tigers to come within two at 13-11. Boyd broke the drought on a reverse layup off the find from Deywilk Tavarez.
- A Tavarez triple created distance to make it 22-16 with 8:50 remaining in the first half before another triple, this time from AJ Smith, gave the Cougars their largest lead of the game at 27-18.
- Charleston ended the first half going 3-3 from the field before another two-minute scoring drought to take a 39-30 lead entering the locker room. Tavarez had 13 first half points to pace a 59% team shooting effort from the field.
- Towson started the second half with a corner three before a pair of Brzovic free throws and a AJ Smith triple pushed the lead to 13 at 46-33.
- The Tigers cut to lead to six on a fastbreak layup before defensive charges from Tavarez and Djordje Curcic along with strong post work from Boyd and Brzovic gave Charleston a ten-point cushion with 12 minutes to play.
- The Cougars entered the double bonus with nine minutes to play in the game, going 24-26 from the charity stripe to help seal the 77-69 win.
- Brzovic recorded his 13th career double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. The senior added five assists.
- Smith and Tavarez each had 20 points, a Cougar high for Smith. Tavarez and Boyd grabbed seven rebounds a piece, both season bests.
- CJ Fulton dished out five assists as he nears 500 for his career.
GAME NOTES
- Charleston shot 46% from the field compared to Towson's 42%
- The Cougars were 24-26 from the free throw line, led by Brzovic going 8-8 and Smtih going 6-6. The Tigers only took nine shots from the line, making three.
- The Cougars' nine turnovers tie their lowest mark this season vs. Charlotte.
- Charleston led the contest from start to finish. The Cougars have now defeated Towson in six of the last seven meetings.
- Charleston, now 12-3 and 2-0 in league play, travels to Long Island on Thursday, January 9 to take on Hofstra. Action is set for 7:00 p.m.
