Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Balanced Attack Leads Cougars to Victory

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's basketball team moved to 2-0 in CAA play with a 77-69 win over Towson on Saturday afternoon at TD Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Charleston scored six early fastbreak points to force a Towson timeout 90 seconds into the contest. The Cougars pushed the lead to 13-6 after a Derrin Boyd trey before falling cold, going 0-4 from the field during a two-minute stretch to allow the Tigers to come within two at 13-11. Boyd broke the drought on a reverse layup off the find from Deywilk Tavarez.
  • A Tavarez triple created distance to make it 22-16 with 8:50 remaining in the first half before another triple, this time from AJ Smith, gave the Cougars their largest lead of the game at 27-18.
  • Charleston ended the first half going 3-3 from the field before another two-minute scoring drought to take a 39-30 lead entering the locker room. Tavarez had 13 first half points to pace a 59% team shooting effort from the field.
  • Towson started the second half with a corner three before a pair of Brzovic free throws and a AJ Smith triple pushed the lead to 13 at 46-33.
  • The Tigers cut to lead to six on a fastbreak layup before defensive charges from Tavarez and Djordje Curcic along with strong post work from Boyd and Brzovic gave Charleston a ten-point cushion with 12 minutes to play.
  • The Cougars entered the double bonus with nine minutes to play in the game, going 24-26 from the charity stripe to help seal the 77-69 win.
