CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston head women's tennis coach Angelo Anastopoulo announced the signing of Sophia Kovacheva on National Signing Day.
Sophia Kovacheva – 5'4 – Bristol, United Kingdom – Montpelier HS
"Sophia is a great competitor and athlete that will excel in college tennis," Anastopoulo said. "She is hungry to improve and is a natural leader."
Kovacheva has made one final and two semifinal appearances in British Tour events. Additionally, she's helped her high school consistently qualify for the team national championships, and she holds a 47-16 record this year.
"I chose College of Charleston because it offers the perfect combination of strong academics, competitive athletics and a supportive team culture," said Kovacheva. "The program's commitment to the players and understanding their needs to make them the best athlete they can be, both on and off the court, stood out to me. Plus, the amazing campus and welcoming Charleston community make it a great place to live, learn, and compete. College of Charleston is the whole package I was looking for from the beginning."
