
Men's Basketball Drops Non-Conference Battle at South Florida

TAMPA, Fla. – The College of Charleston men's basketball team dropped a non-conference battle at South Florida 81-75 on Wednesday at the Yuengling Center.

- Charleston started the contest on a 6-0 run, shooting a perfect 4-4 from the field through the first media timeout to take an 11-5 lead.
- The Cougars continued the offensive pressure, shooting 90% from the floor to kickstart an 8-0 run behind back-to-back makes from Chris Davis Jr. to take a 26-15 lead, their largest of the game with 10:58 to play.
- South Florida took their first lead of the game 27-26 with eight minutes left to play before going on a 24-0 run to take a 40-27 lead.
- The Cougars climbed back behind successful trips to the charity stripe from Jlynn Counter and Jaxon Prunty and a Martin Kalu triple to cut the deficit to three at 46-43 entering the locker room. Counter led Charleston with 13 points in the frame, while Chol Machot recorded five blocks.
- Machot tied the contest 48-48 on his third triple of the season to open the second half before the teams traded points through a series of runs.
- South Florida pulled away 77-71 with three minutes to play, holding the Cougars scoreless from the field for over three minutes to seal the victory.
- Counter led Charleston with 19 points, six assists, and four rebounds.
- Connor Hickman contributed 15 points and five rebounds.
- Machot recorded six blocks, the third most in a single game in school history.
- Christian Reeves and Prunty each grabbed a team-high six rebounds
- Prunty was a perfect 6-6 from the charity stripe.
- The Cougars shot 37% from the field compared to 41% from the Bulls.
- South Florida won the rebounding battle 47-42.
- The contest featured five ties, with Charleston largest lead coming at 11. South Florida's largest lead was 13.
