
Cougars Take Down Seminoles in Tallahassee

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The College of Charleston women's basketball team (7-2) earned a 75-70 road win at Florida State (4-8) at the Donald L. Tucker Center Sunday afternoon.
With the win, the Cougars defeated a Power 4 school for the second consecutive year and earned their first victory over an ACC school since Charleston defeated Clemson in 2009.

- After Florida State jumped out to a 5-0 lead, the teams traded buckets as Florida State held a 12-8 advantage at the first media timeout.
- The Seminoles increased their lead to five, but the Cougars closed the quarter on a 7-2 run with Taylor Barbot hitting a jumper and scoring her sixth point of the quarter to tie the game 15-all.
- The squads continued to trade buckets before Taylor Barbot connected with Sophia Tougas on a fastbreak layup to give the Cougars their first lead (24-23) with 3:40 left in the half.
- In her season debut, Jami Hill scored her first points of the year as she drained a three in the final three minutes of the half to help CofC hold a 29-28 advantage at the break.
- Highlighted by back-to-back threes from Sophia Tougas, the Cougars scored the first 10 points of the second half and increased their lead to 11 with 7:59 left in the third.
- Florida State then rattled off eight straight points to make it a three point game in favor of Charleston (39-36).
- Taylor Barbot then hit a layup before Taryn Barbot hit two threes to give CofC a 47-41 edge with 3:14 left in the third.
- The Seminoles scored the final six points of the quarter and tied the game 47-all with one quarter to play.
- After trading scores to open the fourth, Florida State regained control and held a 65-59 lead with 4:44 to play.
- Coming out of a timeout, the Cougars scored seven straight points in less than a minute to give CofC a 66-65 lead with 3:16 left in the contest.
- With Charleston holding on to a one point lead (68-67) with 1:48 to play, multiple stops and five straight free throws from Taylor Barbot put CofC up 73-67 with 10 seconds to play.
- Charleston would go on to defeat Florida State 75-70 at the Donald L. Tucker Center to earn the Cougars third road win of the year and their first win over an ACC school since 2009.
- Junior Taryn Barbot tallied 12 points, five rebounds and two steals.
- Junior Taylor Barbot posted game-highs in points (20) and assists (8), while also grabbing four rebounds and collecting two steals.
- Junior Grace Ezebilo recorded 12 rebounds and two blocks.
- Junior Jami Hill made her season debut, scored eight points and grabbed three rebounds.
- Senior Naylee Cortes had a game-high four steals to go along with five points and four boards.
- Redshirt senior Sophia Tougas had a season-high 18 points as she went 4-for-8 from behind the arc.
- Charleston forced 22 Florida State turnovers and scored 26 points off Seminole errors.
- CofC collected 17 offensive rebounds and took 12 more shots than Florida State.
- The Cougars made 13 free throws and shot 81.6% from charity stripe, while the Seminoles shot 73.3% from the line and converted on 11 of their 15 attempts.
- Taryn Barbot is up to 1,241 career points and is 17th on the Cougars all-time scoring list.
