Eight Cougars Enter Record Book at Gamecock Challenge

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Eight College of Charleston athletes, including five freshmen, made their way into the top 10 in school indoor track and field history at the Gamecock Challenge on Saturday in Columbia.

Freshman Emma Townsend led the way by entering the record book in two events, including third in the 200m (25.83) and fifth in the 60m (7.95). Gabby David joined Townsend by running a 7.99 in the latter event to take over eighth place.

First-year runner Caroline Himstreet had the fastest 3000m time in almost 12 years (9:48.41) to finish sixth in the meet and move into second in school history. Freshmen Caroline Cassidy is now seventh in the 400m (59.48), Jeorgi Gavalas is eighth in the mile (5:05.27) and Bella Hudson is 10th in the 5000m (18:13.02).

Gavalas made the record book for the second time in as many meets after setting the Charleston record in the 1000m two weeks ago in Chapel Hill. Also making their mark on Saturday were Lacie Grady, who took over sixth place in the 600m (1:46.45), and Savannah Stoutt, who is seventh in the 3000m (10:05.40).

Madison Jent and Tonet Tallie led the way in the field events with both clearing 3.68m (12'0 ¾") in the pole vault. Freshman Boston Stringer broke a tie for 10th with a top height of 3.23m (10'7"), and Kinsley Allen finished fourth in the high jump at 1.63m (5'4 ¼").
