Cougars in Third After Day One in Sarasota

SARASOTA, Fla. - The College of Charleston women's golf team sits in third place entering the final round of the Spartan Sun Coast Invitational in Sarasota. The Cougars are currently 1-over and will play in tomorrow's final group with Oklahoma and No. 25 Ohio State.
The Cougars tied with the Sooners and Buckeyes for first place after the opening round with a 285 team total. After the second round, Charleston is one stroke behind second place Ohio State and three stroke behind leader Oklahoma. Charleston leads the field in par 5 scoring (4.70) and is second in total pars (120).
"It was a great team effort today! We played steady golf in tough conditions," said head coach Jamie Futrell. "It will be fun to be in the final group tomorrow."
Senior Emma Schimpf leads Charleston at T4 (-2). She totaled five birdies on the day and was one of seven golfers to record an eagle through the opening two rounds. Her opening round 68 was tied for the lowest first round score.
Molly Hardwick and Emilia von Glahn sit at T16 (+1) followed by Emilie von Finckenstein at T35 (+4) and Adrian Anderson at T67 (+10).
The Cougars will return tomorrow for the final round from Palm Aire Country Club.
