CHARLESTON, SC – The College of Charleston women's golf team will host the Daniel Island Invitational on February 24-25 at the Daniel Island Club.
Charleston will welcome NC State, Virginia Tech, Tennessee, Campbell, Orla Roberts, James Madison, Coastal Carolina, Georgetown, Eastern Michigan, Charlotte, Yale, Georgia State, and Charleston Southern.
The Cougars are coming off a fourth-place finish at the Spartan Sun Coast Invitational. After posting the top first round score, the Cougars played an even par final round to finish 1-over for the tournament. Charleston finished second in the field in total pars (181) and par 5s scoring (4.70). The team defeated seven Power 4 programs and one top 25 ranked squad.
Senior Emma Schimpf was named the CAA Player of the Week after her performance at the Spartan Sun Coast Invitational. She earned a top five finish with a 3-under 213 on the Palm Aire Country Club course. She came out firing a 4-under 68 in the opening round, sinking three birdies and finishing with an eagle on the par-five, 11th hole to negate an early bogey. After a tough second round going 2-over 74, Schimpf bounced back with a 71 in the final round after going bogey-free on the back nine to complement two birdies and a bogey on the front end. The senior led the field in par 3s scoring (2.67) and was third in total pars (40).
