MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – College of Charleston lost to Fordham, 5-2, and North Dakota State, 2-1, on the opening day of the Charleston Invitational at Patriots Point.
Game 1
- Fordham built a 5-0 lead with three runs in the fourth and two more in the sixth.
- The Cougars got RBI singles from Austy Miller and Kaytlin Stacey in the bottom of the sixth to make it 5-2.
- Ryley Kutter went 5.2 innings and did not allow an earned run while striking out three.
- Izzy Alley worked 1.1 innings of scoreless relief with a pair of strikeouts.
- Jay Wrightsman led Charleston with two hits, and Miller stole two bases.
Game 2
- Freshman Mackenzie Mathis went the distance in her collegiate debut and fanned seven.
- Only one of the runs NDSU scored off Mathis was earned.
- The Cougars made it a 1-1 game in the fourth on an RBI groundout by Audri Bates.
- Miller singled to lead off the sixth, and Charleston put two on in the seventh but was unable to push across the tie run.
- Julia Sitterding had two hits in the nightcap and a team-high three on the day.
