CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston opens its 2025 softball season this weekend when the Cougars welcome Fordham, North Dakota State and Virginia Tech to Patriots Point for the Charleston Invitational.
The tournament gets underway with four games on Friday including Charleston contests against Fordham at 3:00 and North Dakota State at 5:30. The Cougars take on the Rams and Virginia Tech at the same times on Saturday and face the Hokies again on Sunday at 1:00.
There is no admission charge for any of the games this weekend. The Charleston games on Friday and Sunday will be streamed by FloCollege.
Virginia Tech has been one of the top teams in the ACC the past six seasons, going 230-74-1 over that span, and is ranked as high as No. 16 in the nation entering the 2025 campaign. The Hokies won 40 games last year and have made five consecutive trips to the NCAA Regionals.
North Dakota State won 30 games in both 2022 and 2023 and has been a consistent NCAA Regional entry since joining the Summit League in 2008, winning 11 conference titles and making 10 postseason appearances.
Fordham went 25-29-1 a year ago and 15-11 in the A-10. As recently as 2021 the Rams were 37-10 and the following year won the A-10 Tournament and advanced to regional play.
