Cougars Take Pair from SC State

ORANGEBURG, S.C. – College of Charleston ran its winning streak to five games with a sweep over South Carolina State by scores of 15-7 and 2-1 on Wednesday.

Game 1
  • The Cougars scored their most runs in a game since a 15-1 win over Delaware State on Feb. 15, 2020.
  • Karlee Hughes stole three bases for the second straight game, and the total of nine tied the team record set against Maine on Feb. 29, 2020.
  • Freshman Sally Trent had three hits and joined fellow first-year player Bricelyn Bedenbaugh with three RBI.
  • Bedenbaugh's RBI came on her first career home run as a pinch hitter in the fifth.
  • Kaytlin Stacey added two hits, scored three times and knocked in a pair.
  • Sierra Paradis ran her hitting streak to seven before seeing it come to an end in the nightcap.
Game 2
  • Unlike the opener, the second game was a pitching duel with Lily Thorpe tossing her first career complete game.
  • Thorpe allowed five hits, walked only one and struck out four and worked out of a bases loaded, nobody out jam in the fourth.
  • The Cougars scored in the first when Julia Sitterding singled, advanced to third on a steal and error and came across on a wild pitch.
  • Charleston broke a 1-1 tie in the fourth. Austy Miller was hit by a pitch, stole second and eventually scored on an error.
  • SC State got a one-out baserunner in the sixth before Thorpe retired the final five batters.
