Ruiter Leads Cougars Through Opening Round in Auburn

AUBURN, Ala. - Nevill Ruiter led the College of Charleston men's golf team through the opening round of the NCAA Auburn Regional on Monday at the Auburn University Club. Ruiter shot an even par round of 72 with six birdies, the third most of any player in the field. He enters the second round at T20.
After battling through gloomy weather conditions and a rain delay, the Cougars are in tenth place after day one (+8). The top five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the championship held at the Omni La Costa Resort in Carlsbad, California.
Kieron van Wyk follows Ruiter at T46 (+2) while Tim Bertenbreiter and Waymon Thomas are one stroke behind at T55 (+3). Thomas sank four birdies on the front nine and totaled five during the round.
The Cougars will look to climb the leaderboard during Tuesday's second round.
