Charleston Cross Country Finds 8 Personal Bests in Boone

BOONE, N.C. – The College of Charleston men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Covered Bridge Invitational hosted by App State in Boone, N.C. Friday morning. The women finished 4 of 6 teams in the 5k race. The men finished 4 of 5 teams in the 6k race.
On the women's side, junior Savannah Stoutt crossed the line first for the Cougars with a time of 18:20.9. Not far behind was sophomore Bella Hudson who slashed nearly a minute from her previous personal record of 19:23.7 to put up a time of 18:27.6.
Rookie Cara Grace Phillips led the way for the newcomers posting a time of 18:34.9 for her first collegiate race. Fellow freshman Kiley DeFusco found a time of 19:08.6 to pave the way for her first season as a Cougar.
The Senior duo of Cayden Crismon and Andie Harding also recorded new personal bests. Crismon posted a time of 18:46.6 and Harding snuck under the 19-minute mark with a time of 18:56.5.
Abby Mogg shaved over a minute off her personal best posting a time of 18:49.2. Mogg scored 28 points for the Cougars helping to surpass Tennessee Tech to clench the 4 spot. The sophomores took Boone by storm as Lauren Resnick hit a personal best of 19:53.6 this morning and Aine Trapp had a personal best of 18:59.5.
Katie O'Toole ran a personal best of 18:57.6 in her first race back from an injury.
For the men, freshman Will Buckley led the way for the Cougars running a 19:18.6 6k for his first feat with Charleston. In his Charleston debut, Thomas Flaig found success running second for the Cougars posting a time of 19:25.73. The freshmen pair scored 18 and 19 points.
Grad transfer from Memphis, Declan Byrne, ran third for CofC scoring 20 points and running a time of 19:30.53.
Finn Myatt and Andrew Catapano finished together scoring 22 and 23 points. Myatt ran a personal best of 19:34.0, shaving nearly two minutes off his personal best. Just .20 seconds behind was Catapano posting a time of 19:34.2.
Junior Rob DiMedio sank a personal best of 19:51 for a 6k.
Charleston cross country will next run at the Chanticleer Challenge hosted by Coastal Carolina in Conway, S.C. on September 19. The women will go off at 5:00 p.m. and the men will follow at 5:45 p.m.
