Cougars Hold On For Seventh Straight Win

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's basketball team held off Hampton to earn the program's seventh straight win with a 74-70 victory over the Pirates Saturday night at TD Arena. With the win, Charleston remains undefeated in league play.

- Connor Hickman and Colby Duggan started the Cougars off out of the gate with back-to-back makes from deep.
- Charleston followed it up by going 5-7 from the field while holding Hampton scoreless for over two minutes to take a 17-9 lead with 11 minutes to play.

- Hampton cut the Cougar to lead with eight minutes to play, holding Charleston scoreless for nearly three minutes while the teams combined for 1-12 from the field. The Cougars held on to the momentum, entering the locker room up 28-26. Jlynn Counter and Duggan led the Cougars with eight point each at the break while Chol Machot totaled five blocks in the first twenty minutes of play.
- Duggan opened the second half with eight points in three minutes before giving the Cougars their largest lead of the day at 45-33 with another triple.
- Hampton never went away, cutting the deficit to one point on two separate occasions and came back to tie the game 59-59 with four minutes to play.
- A Christian Reeves tip-in dunk and-1 opportunity helped shift the energy in TD Arena before a series of clutch free throws from Hickman, Machot, Duggan, and Counter. Charleston never relinquished the lead down the stretch to remain undefeated in conference play.

KEY COUGARS
- Duggan led Charleston with 22 points, his most in a Cougar uniform. The junior went 7-13 from the field and a perfect 7-7 from the charity stripe.
- Counter added 19 points and seven assists.
- Machot grabbed a team-high seven rebounds and recorded six blocks. The redshirt sophomore now has 48 blocks on the season.

GAME NOTES
- Charleston shot 51% from the field compared to 40% from the Pirates.
- The Cougars are undefeated this season when leading at halftime and are 4-0 in games decided by five or less points.
