TOWSON, Md. – The College of Charleston men's basketball team outscored Towson 35-27 in the second half but could not overcome a first half deficit, ultimately falling 61-52 on the road Thursday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Charleston offense struggled to find rhythm early, committing three turnovers in the opening four minutes of play. The Cougars shot just 22% from the field in the first half to enter the locker room down 34-17.
Charleston started the second half on an 8-0 run, causing four Towson turnovers during the stretch and holding the Tigers to 1-8 shooting from the field. Back-to-back triples from Connor Hickman and Jlynn Counter highlighted a 13-2 Cougar run to cut the deficit to four at 44-40 with eight minutes to play.
After gaining ground, Charleston went 1-8 from the field to allow the Tigers to pull away and hold on for the win.

KEY COUGARS

Hickman matched his Cougar best with a game-high 20 points to go with five rebounds.
Counter contributed seven points, six assists, and seven rebounds in the loss.
Chol Machot added ten points and secured his third double-double of the season with a game-high 13 rebounds.

GAME NOTES

Towson outshot Charleston 34% to 31% from the field.
The Cougars won the rebounding battle 43-41.
Machot recorded two blocks, continuing his streak of notching at least one block in 13 straight games.
The Cougars 51 points are the program's fewest scored this season.
With the loss, Charleston's seven game win streak comes to an end.

UP NEXT

Charleston, now 11-7 and 4-1 in conference play, will remain on the road and travel to Stony Brook to face the Seawolves on Saturday, January. Action is set for 4:00 p.m. on Long Island.
