
Charleston Cruises to Seventh Straight Victory

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's basketball team (14-3, 6-0) cruised to a 87-64 win over Elon (7-10, 2-3) at TD Arena Sunday afternoon.
With the win, the Cougars improved to 6-0 in conference play for the first time ever.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Led by five quick points by Taryn Barbot, CofC jumped out to a quick 9-2 advantage less than three minutes into the game.
- Charleston increased it's lead to 10, but Elon made it a 21-16 game in favor of the Cougars at the end of the first quarter.
- After trading buckets to start the second period, Anilys Rolon hit back-to-back triples to cap an 11-0 Cougars run and give them a 36-21 lead with 6:27 left in the half.
- Sophia Tougas drilled her second three of the game to put Charleston up 46-25 before CofC took a 53-31 edge into the break.
- CofC opened the second half with nine straight points as the Cougars took a 62-31 advantage with 6:32 left in the third.
- The two teams traded scores through the remainder of the period as Charleston held a 75-43 lead with 10 minutes to play.
- In the final stanza, four different Cougars scored as CofC went on to win 87-64.
LEADING COUGARS
- Junior Taylor Barbot had 14 points and six assists.
- Junior Taryn Barbot scored 20 points for the ninth time this season. She also added four assists and three rebounds.
- Junior Tyja Beans scored 18 points and collected six boards and two steals.
- Junior Grace Ezebilo had her 14th double-digit rebounding game of the year with 13 boards. She also scored four points and collected three steals. Ezebilo's third steal of the game was the 100th of her career.
- Freshman Anilys Rolon scored 14 points, including 11 in the second quarter.
KEY STATS
- Charleston shot 48.4% from the field and held Elon to a 38.6% clip.
- CofC forced 17 Elon turnovers and scored 20 points off Phoenix errors.
- The Cougars outscored the Phoenix 32-22 in the paint.
OF NOTE
- Taryn Barbot scored her 1,389th point as a Cougar and is 12th on Charleston's all-time scoring list.
- Four different Cougars scored in double figures, while 10 different Cougars scored in the contest.
- CofC is now 19-24 all-time against Elon and the Cougars have won four-straight against the Phoenix.
- The Cougars have now won seven-straight contests.
QUOTABLES
- I'm happy we got the win and were able to play a lot of kids today, Head Coach Robin Harmony said. We came out and controlled the game from the beginning and put together a good overall performance on our home court. We've still got some things to clean up, but I'm happy with our performance today.
