Strong Second Half Propels Cougars to Victory Over Camels

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's basketball team used a strong second half performance to top Campbell 87-83 in conference play on Thursday night at TD Arena. With the win, Charleston moves to 12-8 overall and 5-2 in CAA play.

- After Campbell took an early 8-2 lead to start the game, three straight makes from Connor Hickman highlighted a 14-3 run to give Charleston their first lead of the game at18-17 with ten minutes to play.

- Campbell tied the game 22-22 with eight minutes to play before going on a 9-0 run of their own. A driving Hickman layup and back-to-back Christian Reeves slam dunks helped Charleston enter the locker room down one 35-34. Hickman led the Cougars with 14 first half points.
- Neither team took more than two-point edge out of the locker room before a 14-0 Cougar run highlighted by a Chris Davis Jr. triple and another Reeves slam gave Charleston their largest lead of the night 56-46 with 13:30 to play.

- Campbell stayed close as the teams combined 12-13 from the field down the stretch. Jlynn Counter scored his 1,500th career point on a three to erupt TD Arena.
- After maintaining a two-possession lead for majority of the second half, Campbell cut the deficit to two points with 5.3 seconds to play. The Camels fouled and sent Counter to line immediately following. The grad transfer delivered, sinking both opportunities to seal the victory.
- Counter led Charleston with 23 points, 20 of which came in the second half. The point guard added a career-high tying nine assists and seven rebounds.
- Reeves contributed a career-high 21 points and nine rebounds going 9-11 from the field.
- Hickman was the final double-digit point scorer for Charleston, finishing the night with 18.
- Colby Duggan and Martin Kalu added four rebounds each.

GAME NOTES
- Charleston shot a season-high 56% from the field. The Cougars 50 points in the paint are also a season-high.
- The Cougars outrebounded the Camels 32-29 and made 29 trips to the free throw line compared to 12 for Campbell.
- The win marks the Cougars' third time this season erasing a first half deficit. Chris Mack's program remains undefeated on the year in games decided by five points or less.
- The contest featured five ties and seven lead changes.

- Charleston will welcome Elon to TD Arena on Saturday, January 24. Action is set for 12:00 p.m. in Charleston.
- This will be the second time this season the programs have faced off. The Cougars won the previous meeting with an 85-81 triumph in Elon on New Year's Eve.
