Men's Basketball Returns to Action at Home vs. Elon

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston men's basketball team welcomes Elon to TD Arena on Saturday, January 24 for the second meeting between the programs this season. Action is set for 12:00 p.m. in Charleston.
STORYLINES
In order to sell and/or serve an alcoholic beverage in TD Arena, the following requirements apply:
As fans enter the main entrance of TD Arena on November 3, they will see new walk-through magnetometers, or metal detectors. In addition to the existing Clear Bag and prohibited items policy at TD Arena, the magnetometers are a new added security feature to enhance the safety of our fans.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
STORYLINES
- Charleston is 31-9 all-time against the Phoenix and are winners of eight consecutive meetings. The teams last met on New Year's Eve when the Cougars earned the 85- 81 victory at the Schar Center. Martin Kalu led Charleston with 19 points while Chol Machot recorded seven blocks, the second most in a single-game in school history.
- The Cougars are coming off an 87-83 victory over Campbell on Thursday, January 22. Jlynn Counter led Charleston with 23 points, nine assists, and four rebounds followed by Christian Reeves with a career-high 21 points on a career-high nine made field goals along with nine rebounds. Connor Hickman added 18 points, 14 of which came in the first half.
- Counter recorded his 1,500th career point on a three-pointer in the second half in the midst of a 14-3 Cougar run. He is the first player since Grant Riller in 2019 to record 11 straight games in double-figure scoring.
- Graduate student Hickman has scored at least 18+ points in the last three contests.
- Chris Mack's program is 5-0 this season in games decided by five points or less and 11-1 overall during his two seasons leading the program.
- The Cougars are currently 23rd in the nation in free throw makes per game (19.0) and 30th in free throw attempts per game (25.5). The team also ranks in the top 50 nationally in defensive rebounds per game, coming in at 46th (27.20).
- Machot continues to be one of the top shot blockers in the country, ranking fourth in the nation in total blocks (52) and eighth in blocks per game (2.60). He already sits at the ninth most blocks in a single season in the program history with 11 regular season games left to play.
- Through the start of conference play, Charleston leads the league in team free throw percentage (0.781) and overall rebounds (39.1). They are also second in scoring offense through seven games (80.9).
- The Cougars ended 2025 win the Cougars' then fifth straight a win, an 85-81 victory at Elon to move to 2-0 early in conference play. Kalu led Charleston with 19 points followed by Counter with 16, Machot with 15, and Hickman with ten. Two Cougars flirted with triple-doubles as Machot added 15 rebounds and seven blocks. Counter dished out nine assists and grabbed nine rebounds.
- The teams shot an identical 44.1% from the field. Charleston held the league's then leading offense below their 87.1 season average.
- Charleston won the rebounding battle 43-32.
- The Cougars shot 90% from the free throw line, their best performance from the charity stripe so far this season.
- Bryson Cokley led the Phoenix with 23 points off the bench. Chandler Cuthrell added 17 points and six rebounds followed by Isaac Harrell with 12 points.
- Elon enters the contest 12-8 overall and 4-3 in CAA play. The Phoenix are coming off a 72-59 loss to Towson on Thursday night. Cuthrell led Elon with 17 points and seven rebounds.
- The Phoenix lead the league through conference play in team field goal percentage (0.490) and team assist/turnover ratio with 128 total assists and 77 turnovers. Cuthrell ranks fourth in the league in points per game (20.9).
- The contest will serve as the program's annual Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneaker Week. The Cougars coaching staff will join teams across the country in raising awareness and funds in the fight against cancer in by wearing sneakers with their suits on game day.
- Charleston Athletics is proud to honor and recognize all active duty service members, veterans, and members of the National Guard throughout Saturday's contest.
- Doors will open 1.5 hours prior to tip-off.
- Concession stands will open when doors open, and the Cougar Spirit Shop will open one hour prior to tip-off.
- Add your tickets to your Apple Wallet or Google Pay App prior to arriving at TD Arena for the smoothest entry experience.

- An ADA drop-off lane is provided in the right-hand lane traveling along Meeting Street next to TD Arena.
In order to sell and/or serve an alcoholic beverage in TD Arena, the following requirements apply:
- Moving forward, a valid ID is required to be scanned/swiped for each transaction.
- Vertical IDs will not be accepted at sales locations regardless of the individual's age.
- All ID checks will be handled directly by our Aramark concession partners at each stand. EPI staff will no longer check ID's or provide wristbands.
- No more than two (2) alcoholic beverages may be sold or served per transaction.

WHAT TO EXPECT:
- Fans will enter TD Arena at the Meeting Street entrance.
- Once inside, fans will be asked to take their belongings out of their pockets and place them in a bin. This includes phone, wallet, keys, etc.
- If you bring a bag compliant with the Clear Bag policy, your items can be placed in the bag.
- EPI security staff will provide guidance on when to walk through the magnetometer and assist in retrieving your belongings after you clear through the magnetometer.
- Finally, approach the pedestal ticket scanners at the base of the stairs, scan your tickets, and cheer on the Cougars!
- Fans can watch the broadcast live on FloCollege and the Varsity App with the Voice of the Cougars Everett German and Danny Johnson on the call.
