
Women's Basketball Wins 10th Straight Game

ELON, N.C. – The College of Charleston women's basketball team (17-3, 8-0) defeated Elon (9-11, 4-4) 77-69 at the Schar Center on Friday night.
Trailing after the first quarter for just the fifth time this season, CofC came out and dominated the second period. In the second quarter, the Cougars outscored the Phoenix 23-8 as they took a 10-point lead into the break and were able to hold the advantage for the rest of the game.

Trailing after the first quarter for just the fifth time this season, CofC came out and dominated the second period. In the second quarter, the Cougars outscored the Phoenix 23-8 as they took a 10-point lead into the break and were able to hold the advantage for the rest of the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Although Taryn Barbot and Sophia Tougas hit early threes for the Cougars, the Phoenix held a 14-8 advantage midway through the first period.
- Down 20-11 with 1:40 left in the first quarter, the Cougars went on an extended 18-4 run to take a 29-24 lead with 5:52 left in the half.
- From there, Taryn Barbot added eight points in the final five minutes of the second period as the Cougars took a 40-30 edge into the break.
- Sophia Tougas drilled her third and fourth threes against the Phoenix as CofC held a 50-39 advantage at the third quarter media timeout.
- After Charleston took a 57-50 lead into the final stanza, Elon opened the fourth quarter with six-straight points to make it a one-point game with 8:34 left in the contest.
- Tyja Beans answered with her third triple of the game before Taylor Barbot sunk two free throws to put CofC in front 62-56 with 7:37 left to play.
- Charleston extended its lead to 10, but Elon rattled off eight-consecutive points to make it a 68-66 game in favor of the Cougars with 2:54 left to play.
- CofC then hit five-straight free throws to take a 73-66 advantage with 1:33 remaining.
- Elon got within four, but Tyja Beans sunk a pair of free throws to put the game out of reach as the Cougars went on to win by a final score of 77-69 at the Schar Center.
- Junior Taylor Barbot had eight points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals.
- Junior Taryn Barbot had a game-high 25 points as she hit the 20-point mark for the 10th time this season. She also added eight rebounds, seven assists and tied her career-high with six steals.
- Junior Tyja Beans scored 12 points and went 3-for-4 from deep as she scored in double digits for the 10th-consecutive game. She also grabbed four rebounds against the Phoenix.
- Junior Grace Ezebilo grabbed 13 rebounds, including eight offensive boards as she recorded double digit rebounds for the 15th time this season. She also added four points and tied her career-best with four steals.
- Redshirt senior Sophia Tougas poured in four triples as she reached the double figure scoring mark for the eighth time this season.
- Charleston tied its season-high with 12 triples and shot 35.3% from deep, while Elon only made six baskets and shot 27.3% from beyond the arc.
- CofC forced 20 Elon turnovers, collected 16 steals and scored 20 points off Phoenix errors.
- The Cougars outscored the Phoenix 15-4 in transition.
- Charleston connected on 23 of its 26 free throw attempts as the Cougars shot 88.5% from the charity stripe.
- Taryn Barbot scored her 1,442nd point as a Cougar and is 12th on Charleston's all-time scoring list. She also tied her career-best with six steals.
- Sophia Tougas scored her 800th career point.
- Grace Ezebilo tied her career-best with four steals.
- Charleston is now 20-24 all-time against Elon.
- The Cougars have now won 10-straight contests.
- The win over Elon was win number 799 in program history.
