Cougars Pull Away Late at Northeastern

BOSTON, Mass. – The College of Charleston men's basketball team ended the game on a 13-2 run to top Northeastern 89-84 on Saturday afternoon in Boston. With the win, the Cougars move to 15-8 overall and 8-2 in CAA play earning the program's fourth straight victory.

- Jlynn Counter and Chris Davis Jr. provided early offense for Charleston before a 7-0 Husky run gave Northeastern a 20-14 edge with 12 minutes to play.
- Northeastern took their largest lead of the contest at 33-25 with the Cougars going 0-6 from the field during the same stretch. Martin Kalu, Connor Hickman, and Christian Reeves combined 4-4 from the field to cut the deficit to one at 33-32 with three minutes remaining in the half. The teams traded points from there to send Charleston to the locker room down 40-38. Hickman, Reeves and Counter all contributed six points in the frame.
- The Cougars regained the lead five minutes into second half at 50-49 after a Christian Reeves block on the defensive end led to a Martin Kalu fast break layup. The teams again traded points for majority of the second half, coming 8-9 from the field during the stretch with neither squad taking more than a three-point lead.

- The Cougars took their largest lead of the game at 82-78 with a minute to play on a Counter floater. Charleston ended the game on a 13-2 run, with all 13 points belonging to Counter, while going 10-12 from the field to secure the win.
- Counter recorded his second straight double-double with 28 points and 11 assists, a new career-high for the graduate student.
- Reeves contributed 17 points and nine rebounds.
- Chol Machot was a perfect 6-6 from the field for 12 points.
- Kalu added nine points followed by Hickman with eight for Charleston.

- Charleston shot 53% from the field compared to 49% from the Huskies.
- Northeastern won the rebounding battle 37-35.
- The Cougars committed a season-low five turnovers.
- Charleston made 26 trips to the free throw line compared to just five for Northeastern.
- This is Charleston's fifth win this season when trailing at the half. Chris Mack's program is now 7-0 in games decided by five points or less.
- The Cougar bench outscored the Huskies 21-2.
- Charleston held the lead for 8:16.
