
Women's Basketball Cruises Past Northeastern

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Led by a career day from Tyja Beans, the College of Charleston women's basketball team (10-3, 2-0) cruised to a 85-58 win over Northeastern (4-8, 0-2) at TD Arena Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Powered by two Taryn Barbot triples, Charleston jumped out to a 15-3 lead at the first media timeout.
- The Cougars traded buckets with the Huskies in the remainder of the quarter as Charleston headed to the second period with a 21-10 advantage.
- Getting buckets from Tyja Beans and the Barbot Twins, CofC built a 37-21 lead with 4:16 left in the half.
- Northeastern closed the half on a 9-2 spurt as Charleston took a 39-30 edge into the break.
- Back-to-back threes in less than 10 seconds from Taryn Barbot gave Charleston a 53-36 lead with 4:46 left in the third.
- Taryn then hit two more triples as the Cougars took a 67-44 lead into the last stanza.
- As Tyja Beans earned a career-high in points (23) and tied a program record with her eighth steal of the game, CofC won the fourth quarter 18-14 and won the game by a final score of 85-58.
LEADING COUGARS
- Junior Taylor Barbot had nine points, six assists and three steals.
- Junior Taryn Barbot poured in eight triples and tallied a game-high 29 points. Barbot also grabbed four rebounds, dished out three assists and collected two blocks.
- Junior Tyja Beans set career-highs with 23 points and eight steals. Her eight steals are tied for the most in a game in the D1 era. Beans also added three rebounds and three steals.
- Junior Grace Ezebilo earned her 11th double-digit rebounding game with 10 boards.
KEY STATS
- Charleston shot 45.2% from the field and 44.4% from beyond the arc, while holding Northeastern to 37.1% from the field.
- The Cougars forced 23 turnovers, collected 16 steals and scored 31 points off turnovers.
- CofC won the rebounding battle 45-37.
- The Cougars outscored the Huskies 20-15 in the paint and 10-2 on fast break points.
OF NOTE
- Taryn Barbot scored her 1,317th point as a Cougar and is now 13th on the Cougars all-time scoring list. She eclipsed the 20 point mark for the seventh time this year.
- Tyja Beans set career-highs in points and steals with respective totals of 23 and eight. Her eight steals match the program record for steals in a game in the D1 era.
- Taylor Barbot scored her 600th career point Sunday afternoon.

- I'm happy we got the win today and I'm proud of our kids, Head Coach Robin Harmony said. It was great to see Beans and Taryn play with a lot of confidence today. We've done a good job getting to 2-0, and we'll take a look at film and clean some things up before heading to William & Mary and Hampton next weekend.
