
Women's Basketball Comes Away with Gritty Win at William & Mary

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The College of Charleston women's basketball team (11-3, 3-0) gutted out a 62-60 road win over William & Mary (8-6, 1-2) at Kaplan Arena Friday night.
In a game that saw 16 lead changes, the Cougars came up with crucial offensive rebounds and second chance points in the fourth quarter as they improved to 3-0 in CAA play.

In a game that saw 16 lead changes, the Cougars came up with crucial offensive rebounds and second chance points in the fourth quarter as they improved to 3-0 in CAA play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After both teams struggled to score early on, Taryn Barbot and Sophia Tougas gave the Cougars a 10-7 lead as they hit back-to-back threes with 3:34 left in the first quarter.
- The Tribe would hit a triple of their own at the end of the period to take a 17-16 edge into the second quarter.
- Another slow start to a quarter had the Tribe up 22-18 at the second period media timeout.
- From there, Charleston regained the lead off a 5-0 spurt, but William & Mary would take a 28-25 advantage into the break.
- CofC went on a 13-4 run to open the second half as the Cougars took a 38-32 lead, but seven straight points from the Tribe gave them a 39-38 advantage with 3:14 left in the third quarter.
- Charleston closed the stanza with a Taryn Barbot triple and a Marissa Brown layup to take a 47-42 edge into the final ten minutes.
- William & Mary continued to fight, regaining the lead 53-52 with 6:23 left in the game, but a Grace Ezebilo mid-range jumper on the ensuing possession, followed by three straight points from Taryn Barbot put CofC up 57-53 with 5:22 left in the contest.
- An offensive rebound and a pair of points from both Taryn Barbot and Grace Ezebilo gave the Cougars a 61-56 advantage with 2:06 to play.
- After the Tribe pulled within one (61-60) with 41 seconds left, the Cougars got two stops in the final 10 seconds, including a huge block from Grace Ezebilo as CofC won the contest 62-60 and improved to 3-0 in conference play.
- Junior Taylor Barbot had 12 points, seven assists and three rebounds. She also connected with Marissa Brown for her 300th career assist Friday night.
- Junior Taryn Barbot scored 15 points while adding seven rebounds and two assists.
- Junior Tyja Beans added 10 points and two rebounds in the win.
- Junior Grace Ezebilo earned her 12th double-digit rebounding game of the year as she dominated the glass and collected a game-high 17 rebounds, including six offensive boards. She also scored eight points and had four steals.
- Charleston dominated the glass, collecting 21 offensive boards and outrebounding William & Mary 43 to 33.
- The Cougars forced 22 turnovers, tabbed 10 steals and scored 24 points off turnovers.
- CofC outscored the Tribe 38-24 in the paint.
- Taryn Barbot scored her 1,332nd point as a Cougar and is 13th on the Cougars all-time scoring list.
- Grace Ezebilo recorded her 12th double-digit rebounding game as she collected 17 boards.
- Taylor Barbot dished out her 300th career assist Friday night.
