Cougars Battle Down the Stretch, Fall to Pride Thursday Night

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's basketball team battled down the stretch, ultimately falling 66-62 to Hofstra on Thursday night at TD Arena.

- Colby Duggan and Chris Davis Jr. combined for the Cougars' first three field goals from behind the arc to help Charleston take an early 11-9 edge.
- Both teams fell cold from the field, combining to go scoreless for over a three-minute stretch. Neither team took more than a four-point lead through the first half until a 6-0 Hofstra run gave the Pride a 28-22 lead with 4:30 left to play. Successful trips to the free throw line from Jlynn Counter and Davis Jr. cut the deficit back to two less than a minute later.
- Another 6-0 Hofstra run paired with the Cougars going 1-8 from the field to end the half gave the Pride a 37-30 lead entering the break. Colby Duggan and Davis Jr. led Charleston with eight points each in the opening 20 minutes.
- Hofstra took an 11-point lead, their largest of the night, five minutes into the second half. After struggling from the field, a 7-0 Cougar run highlighted by a Chadlyn Traylor triple and Colby Duggan old fashioned three-point play cut the deficit to four at 44-40 with 13 minutes to play.
- The Cougars cut it to a one possession game on three separate occasions in the final minutes of play but could never regain the lead.
- Duggan and Davis Jr. led Charleston with 14 points each. Davis Jr. added five rebounds in his first career start at TD Arena.
- Traylor added 11 points, going 4-5 from the field.
- Counter dished out a game-high eight assists to go with six rebounds.
- Christian Reeves grabbed a team best seven rebounds.
- Hofstra shot 33% from the field, narrowly edging out Charleston's 32$
- The Pride won the rebounding battle 46-36.
- The Cougars made 10 threes for the sixth time this season.
- Charleston had a positive assist/turnover ratio for the 17th time this season.
- Hofstra and Charleston split the regular season meetings between the programs this season.
