CLINTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's tennis team (1-3) earned a 4-3 victory over Presbyterian (4-3) at the Templeton Center Tennis Courts on Wednesday afternoon.
With the win, Charleston improved to 7-0 all-time against Presbyterian and the Cougars are the first team to beat the Blue Hose on their home courts this year.
"It's always great to get a win," head coach Angelo Anastopoulo said. "PC played very well today and I want to give them a lot of credit. We were able to pull out a close win this afternoon, and we're excited to host Nebraska for our home opener on Friday."
Charleston took an early 1-0 lead as the Cougars won all three doubles courts. Oziera Ahmad and Riley Trinkle dominated court two (6-1), while Sia Cariov and Francesca Salvato teamed up for a 6-2 win in the No. 1 position and Harper Santos and Saige Severance earned their own 6-2 victory on court three.
Marra Bruce started singles with a 7-5, 6-2 win on court four, giving the Cougars a 2-0 advantage. The Blue Hope got on the board with a straight set win in slot No. 6, but Oziera Ahmad put CofC in front 3-1 with a 6-2, 7-5 sweep on court two. Presbyterian continued to battle, earning its second point of the match with a three set win in slot No. 1, but Francesca Salvato pulled out a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 three set victory on court three to clinch the match for Charleston.
Presbyterian won court five in three sets to make the final score 4-3 in favor of the Cougars.
