
Cougars Use Dominant Second Half to Defeat Tigers

TOWSON, Md. – The College of Charleston women's basketball team (21-4, 13-1) used a dominant second half to defeat Towson (14-12, 7-7) by a final of 88-78 at SECU Arena on Friday night.
After trailing 45-33 at the break, the Cougars outscored the Tigers 55-33 en route to their 21st victory of the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Taryn and Taylor Barbot both scored six first quarter points, but Towson held a 29-20 advantage after the first 10 minutes.
- Despite six second quarter points from Tyja Beans, the Tigers hit three triples in the second period and held a 45-33 lead at the break.
- Led by 11 quick points from Taryn Barbot, CofC cut into the deficit and made it a 53-48 game in favor of the Tigers at the third quarter media timeout.
- From there, five different Cougars combined to outscore the Tigers 16-7 in the rest of the third as CofC took a 64-60 lead into the final 10 minutes.
- Charleston opened up a 13 point lead (76-63) with 6:06 left in the game thanks to eight early fourth quarter points from Taryn Barbot.
- Towson cut Charleston's lead to six with a minute to play, but five Cougar free throws sealed the game as Charleston went on to defeat Towson 88-78 on Friday night.
- Junior Taylor Barbot had 16 points, five rebounds and five assists.
- Junior Taryn Barbot poured in a season-high 36 points as she reached the 30 point mark for the ninth time in her career. She also grabbed five rebounds and three steals against the Tigers.
- Junior Tyja Beans tallied 13 points and seven rebounds.
- Junior Grace Ezebilo earned a double-double for the fourth consecutive game with 19 rebounds and 15 points. Friday evening was Ezebilo's seventh double-double of the year and her 20th time collecting double digit rebounds this season. She also became Charleston's all-time single season rebounds leader (D1 era) with 310 total boards this year.
- Charleston made 24 free throws and shot 85.7% from the line.
- CofC collected 50 boards compared to Towson's 32.
- The Cougars dominated the paint, outscoring the Tigers 56-16 in the key.
- Charleston shot 44.9% from the field an held Towson to a 36.8% clip.
- Junior Grace Ezebilo earned a double-double for the fourth consecutive game with 19 rebounds and 15 points. Friday evening was Ezebilo's seventh double-double of the year and her 20th time collecting double digit rebounds this season. She also became Charleston's all-time single season rebounds leader (D1 era) with 310 total boards this year.
- Taryn Barbot scored her 1,536th point as a Cougar and is now eighth on Charleston's all-time scoring list. Tonight was Taryn's ninth career 30 point game and her third such game this season.
- Charleston is now 8-19 against Towson.
