
Women's Basketball Clinches CAA Regular Season Title with Win Over William & Mary

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's basketball team (22-4, 14-1) defeated William & Mary (13-13, 6-9) by a final of 70-48 at TD Arena on Friday night.
With the win, Charleston has clinched at least a share of the 2025-26 CAA Regular Season Championship, and the Cougars can clinch the outright title with one win in any of their final three games. Charleston also clinched a top four seed and double-bye in the CAA Tournament with tonight's win. The 2025-26 CAA Regular Season Championship is the first championship in Division I program history.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Sophia Tougas and Tyja Beans both contributed five first quarter points as Charleston took a 16-13 lead into the second period.
- After William & Mary took a 17-16 lead, a quick 4-0 run by Tyja Beans put CofC up 20-17 and forced a Tribe timeout with 6:03 left in the half.
- The Tribe took a 24-23 lead, but Taryn Barbot hit three free throws that gave CofC a 28-26 advantage going into the break.
- Sophia Tougas drilled two threes to begin the third quarter as the Cougars opened up a 39-32 edge halfway through the period.
- Led by five points each from Tyja Beans and Taryn Barbot, Charleston closed the quarter on an 11-0 spurt and took a 52-34 lead into the fourth quarter.
- Taryn Barbot led the Cougars with seven fourth quarter points as Charleston cruised through the final 10 minutes to a 70-48 victory over William & Mary at TD Arena.
- Junior Taylor Barbot had six points, five rebounds and three assists.
- Junior Taryn Barbot poured in a game-high 22 points as she reached the 20 point mark for the 13th time this season. She also grabbed three rebounds and dished out three assists against the Tribe.
- Junior Tyja Beans tallied 18 points and five rebounds.
- Redshirt senior Sophia Tougas added 13 points with three triples.
- Charleston made 15 free throws and shot 83.3% from the line, while William & Mary made just three shots from the charity stripe.
- The Cougars forced 23 Tribe turnovers, collected 11 steals and scored 23 points of turnovers.
- Charleston outscored William & Mary 24-8 in the third quarter.
- Charleston has clinched at least a share of the 2025-26 CAA Regular Season Championship, and the Cougars can clinch the outright title with one win in any of their final three games.
