Charleston Wins 12th Straight Game with Victory Over UNCW

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's basketball team (19-3, 11-0) won its 12th game in a row with an 81-61 win over UNCW (5-17, 1-10) at TD Arena Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Despite Sophia Tougas hitting two early triples, UNCW held an 18-14 lead after 10 minutes.
Trailing 28-27 with 4:47 left in the second quarter, the Cougars closed the half on a 10-2 run as they outscored the Seahawks 23-12 in the quarter and took a 37-30 advantage into the break.
Continuing their run, Tyja Beans and Taylor Barbot combined for seven quick points as CofC increased its lead to 14 with 8:44 left in the third quarter.
UNCW pulled within nine, but Anilys Rolon drilled two triples to put CofC up 53-38 with 4:43 left in the third period.
With Charleston holding a 59-47 lead at the start of the fourth quarter, the Cougars scored the first 12 points of the final stanza to take a commanding 71-47 lead with less than seven minutes to play.
Marissa Brown, Taryn Barbot, Grace Ezebilo and Anilys Rolon all scored for the Cougars in the final minutes as CofC went on to defeat UNCW 81-61 at TD Arena.

LEADING COUGARS

Junior Taylor Barbot had 11 points and seven assists.
Junior Taryn Barbot totaled 13 points, seven assists, six rebounds and four steals.
Junior Tyja Beans tallied 13 points, four rebounds and four assists.
Junior Grace Ezebilo earned her fourth double-double of the season as she totaled 15 points and 19 rebounds. She collected double-digit rebounds for the 17th time this year.
Freshman Anilys Rolon hit three shots from beyond the arc and contributed nine points.
Redshirt senior Sophia Tougas added nine points with three triples.

KEY STATS

Charleston dished out 20 assists compared to UNCW's 14.
CofC forced 20 UNCW turnovers, collected 12 steals and scored 23 points of Seahawk errors.
The Cougars outscored the Seahawks 36-22 in the paint and 19-11 on second chance points.
Charleston outrebounded UNCW 39-29.

OF NOTE

Grace Ezebilo earned her fourth double-double of the year and collected double-digit rebounds for the 17th time this season.
Taryn Barbot scored her 1,468th point as a Cougar and is now 10th on Charleston's all-time scoring list. She also made her 500th career field goal on Friday night.
Jami Hill scored her 200th career point.
Anilys Rolon scored her 100th career point.
Charleston is now 22-20 all-time against UNCW.
The Cougars have now won 12-straight contests.
The win over UNCW was win number 801 in program history.
