
Dominant Third Quarter Pushes Cougars Past Huskies

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's basketball team (20-3, 12-0) used a dominant third quarter to defeat Northeastern (6-16, 2-10) by a final of 69-47 at the Cabot Center on Friday night.
With the win, the Cougars won their 13th straight game and reached the 20-win mark for the third consecutive season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Grace Ezebilo scored four early points and led Charleston to an 8-5 advantage at the first quarter media timeout.
- With the Cougars holding a 16-14 lead after the first stanza, Sophia Tougas opened the second quarter with a triple before Taylor Barbot converted a layup to put CofC in front 21-14.
- The Huskies knotted the game 23-23 with 90 seconds left in the half, but Jami Hill drilled a deep three at the buzzer as Charleston took a 26-23 edge into the locker room.
- Northeastern scored the first seven points of the third quarter to take a 30-26 lead with 7:42 left in the period.
- The Barbot twins and Sophia Tougas then combined for 10 straight points to force a Huskies timeout with 6:43 left in the third.
- The Cougars then extended their run to 23-2 as CofC took a 49-32 advantage into the final frame.
- Charleston outscored Northeastern 20-15 in the final 10 minutes as the Cougars went on to defeat Northeastern 69-47 on Friday night.
LEADING COUGARS
- Junior Taylor Barbot had eight points, six assists and four boards.
- Junior Taryn Barbot totaled a game-high 22 points to go along with nine rebounds, three assists and three steals.
- Junior Tyja Beans tallied 10 points and five rebounds.
- Junior Grace Ezebilo earned her fifth double-double of the season as she totaled 11 points and 13 rebounds. She collected double-digit rebounds for the 18th time this year.
- Redshirt senior Sophia Tougas added 12 points with two triples.
KEY STATS
- Charleston dished out 12 assists compared to Northeastern's eight.
- CofC forced 18 Northeastern turnovers, collected seven steals and scored 21 points off Husky errors.
- The Cougars outscored the Huskies 20-0 on second chance points and 36-24 in the paint.
- Charleston outrebounded Northeastern 43-34.
OF NOTE
- Grace Ezebilo collected her 1,000th career rebound. She also tabbed her fifth double-double of the year and collected double-digit rebounds for the 18th time this season.
- Taryn Barbot scored her 1,490th point as a Cougar and is 10th on Charleston's all-time scoring list.
- Tyja Beans scored her 800th career point.
- Head Coach Robin Harmony reached 20 wins for the 11th time in her career. The 2025-26 season is her third 20-win season at Charleston.
- Charleston earned 20 wins for the third straight season for the first time in D1 program history.
- Charleston is now 9-12 all-time against Northeastern and the Cougars have won four straight contests against the Huskies.
- The Cougars have won 13 straight contests.
- The win over Northeastern was win number 802 in program history.
