RICHMOND, Va. – Sia Cariov was named the Coastal Athletic Association Player of the Week after earning a pair of singles victories in the No. 1 spot and helping Charleston earn a crucial league win over UNCW.
Cariov collected two wins at No. 1 singles to help lead Charleston past South Carolina State (6-1) and CAA foe UNCW (5-2) last week. The sophomore rolled over her South Carolina State opponent, 6-0, 6-4, before picking up an impressive 6-1, 6-3 win against UNCW's top player to help the Cougars claim a key league victory.
This is Cariov's second weekly award this season, and it's CofC's third weekly honor this year. The Cougars have also earned two Coastal Athletic Association Doubles Team of the Week awards this season. Oziera Ahmad and Riley Trinkle earned the honor on March 24 after going 3-0 on the No. 2 court and helping Charleston earn two conference wins. Sia Cariov and Francesca Salvato earned the award on March 10 after winning on court one and helping Charleston earn the critical doubles point in the Cougars 4-3 victory over the Buffalo Bulls on Friday.
Charleston earned the No. 3 seed in the CAA Championship and will take on No. 6 Campbell in the quarterfinals in Williamsburg, Va. at the Mackesy Tennis Center on Friday night. First serve is set for 6 p.m. and when available, all pertinent links can be found on the women's tennis schedule page on cofcsports.com.
