ST. HELENA ISLAND, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's golf team will look to win the program's eighth CAA title at the 2026 CAA Men's Golf Championship April 26-28 at Dataw Island Golf Club in St. Helena Island, S.C.
The Cougars earned fourth place last year at the 2025 CAA Men's Golf Championship. Tim Bertenbreiter led the Cougars with a T4 (+2) finish for a spot on the All-Tournament team. The senior from Germany sank three birdies in the final round, ending the tournament with the third most pars of all golfers (34). Classmate Kieron van Wyk joined Bertenbreiter on the All-Tournament team with a T7 (+4) finish. Nevill Ruiter finished at T11 (+6), sinking four birdies and an eagle in his final CAA Championship appearance.
Charleston is joined in the field by Monmouth, Towson, UNCW, North Carolina A&T, Campbell, Elon, William & Mary, Drexel, and Hofstra. The Cougars are the highest-ranked team in the field at No. 47 in the NCAA Clippd rankings.
Mitch Krywulycz's program has won three tournaments so far this season – the Wexford Intercollegiate, the Hootie at Bulls Bay, and the Giles Spratley Collegiate - a new program record for regular season wins.
Charleston won the Hootie at Bulls Bay tournament in record-breaking fashion on March 22. The Cougars turned in a -35 card, winning by six strokes over second-place South Carolina, and set a new program low round record with a -23 opening round and a program 36-hole record of -41 through two rounds.
In addition to this win, the College of Charleston fifth-year Nevill Ruiter was named the CAA Golfer of the Week after winning the individual title at the Giles-Sprately Collegiate on April 7. Charleston set the tone early, taking a 14-stroke lead at 18-under after the opening round. Miles Eubanks joins Ruiter as an individual champion, taking home the Giles-Sprately title. Loran Appel finished as runner-up in the individual standings at Bulls Bay.
The championship will tee off at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 26. The Cougars will open play at Dataw Island at 11:30 a.m. with UNCW and Elon.
