
Women's Tennis Adds Two to 2026-27 Roster

CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston head women's tennis coach Doug Matthews announced the additions of Ella DeFord and Aneta Holubova to the Cougars' 2026-27 roster.
"I'm excited to welcome Ella and Aneta to the Cougar family," said Matthews. "They are both great fits on and off the court and will represent College of Charleston well. Ella comes in with championship college experience that will benefit the team immediately. Aneta has an all around game that will translate nicely to college tennis. I can't wait to get them on campus in the fall!"
Ella DeFord – 5'11 – Mount Pleasant, S.C. – Xavier/Oceanside Collegiate Academy
During her freshman campaign at Xavier, DeFord helped the Musketeers win the BIG EAST Title as she racked up 14 singles win, including 12 sweeps. Competing primarily on court four, she swept six-straight opponents during the months of March and April. In doubles, DeFord competed mainly in the No. 2 slot and earned seven wins for the Musketeers.
Prior to Xavier, the Mount Pleasant native competed at Oceanside Collegiate Academy and was ranked No. 68 in the 2025 recruiting class. During her prep career, she helped her team to three state championships in 2022, 2021 and 2020 as an eighth grader. DeFord also won a pair of individual state championships in 2022 and 2021. Additionally, she was an ITF Junior Quarterfinalist in October 2024, and advanced to the L1 Round of 16 at the 18s National Clay Court Championships.
"I chose College of Charleston because Charleston is such an amazing place to live and I am excited to explore downtown," said DeFord. "The weather is perfect and the beach is close! I wanted to be close to my family and my coach moved to CofC after my freshman year."
Aneta Holubova – 5'7 – Kromeríž, Czech Republic – Gymnázium Kromeríž
Aneta Holubova comes to Charleston from Kromeríž, Czech Republic where she attends Gymnázium Kromeríž.
Holubova is ranked as the No. 59 junior in Czech Republic and the No. 67 in the women's rankings.
During her career, Holubova has won a Category A tournament in Slovácko, and Category B tournaments in Valašské Mezirící and Česká Trebová. She's also picked up a 6-0, 6-2 win over an opponent rated 10.14 UTR.
"I chose College of Charleston because of the strong connection I built with the coaching staff, the competitive tennis program, and the opportunity to receive a great education while continuing my athletic career," said Holubova. "I felt welcomed from the beginning and knew it was the right place for me to grow both as a student and as a tennis player."
