Charleston, S.C. - The College of Charleston men's and women's cross country teams will kick off the 2026 season at the CSU Buccaneer Open on Friday, September 4 at the Charleston Southern cross country course.
Head coach Chris Bailey returns 12 athletes on the men's side, including Declan Byrne, who posted a 10k time of 31:59.2 last season to move into fourth on the Charleston all-time record list. Will Buckley, Adrian Miller and Andrew Catapano also return after scoring for the Cougars at last year's NCAA Southeast Regional.
Bailey welcomes three newcomers to the men's roster in Greyson Brown, Michael Colosi and Joshua Wineland.
On the women's side, 11 Cougars return for the 2026 season. Senior captain Katie O'Toole returns after an impressive 2025 campaign in which she earned a new personal best 6k time of 22:08.6 at the NCAA Southeast Regional. Fellow captains Lauren Resnick and Sydney Peer also return, with Peer making her return to cross country after competing exclusively on the track side since her freshman season.
Bailey also adds four newcomers to the women's roster in freshmen Callie Rohm, Abby O'Neil, and Anna Kelly, along with sophomore transfer, Sofia Day, who joins the Cougars from Vanderbilt.
The meet marks the first of four regular season races for the Cougars. Charleston Southern, South Carolina State, and The Citadel are also set to compete. Charleston Southern enters the season ranked 15th in the Southeast Region, as announced in the USTFCCCA preseason rankings on August 31.
The men's 6k is set for an 8am start, followed by the women's 5k at 8:45am.
