Shayne Thompson

Shayne McPherson completed her first season as an assistant coach with the College of Charleston beach volleyball program in 2022, helping the Cougars set a single-season program record with 22 wins.
 
She assists with all aspects of the program and brings tremendous experience as both an indoor and beach player at the University of Washington.
 
2022 (Overall Record: 22-13)
  • Set a single-season record with 22 wins
  • Went 6-6 in CofC’s first season in the A-SUN
  • Posted a 4-0 record against Mercer
  • Went 3-2 at the ASUN Tournament finishing third in Pool A
  • Only team to earn a point against top-seeded Stetson in the ASUN Tournament
  • Sky Benjamin finished her career as the program’s all-time leader with 29 wins in the top flight
  • Gabi Bailey and Kyra Thompson each set a single-season record with 25 individual wins
  • Amani Dunston and Emma Falk finished the campaign tied for fifth on the single-season wins list (21)
  • Maria Zweig, Ella Reames and Sofie Vogel each collected 20 victories
  • The duos of Bailey/Thompson and Falk/Zweig both earned AVCA Top Flight accolades
  • Benjamin and Reames were named to the All-ASUN Second Team
  • Thompson and Zweig garnered ASUN All-Academic Team recognition
Prior to College of Charleston
  • Four-year starter at libero and defensive specialist at University of Washington
  • 2019 All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention (Indoor)
  • Holds the program-record for career sets played (495)
  • Ranked fourth in program history with 1,698 career digs
  • Led the Huskies to two NCAA Elite appearances and one NCAA Sweet Sixteen berth
  • Winningest player in the beach program’s history with 67 career wins including 57 dual victories
  • Set a single-season record with 23 wins in 2021, breaking her own record of 19 established during her sophomore campaign in 2018
  • Currently serves as the assistant coach with the U17 team at SC Elite Volleyball Club as well

  • Earned her bachelor’s degree in communications at Washington
  • Also completed her master’s degree in intercollegiate athletic leadership at Washington
