With the win, the Cougars close out the regular season with a 5-10-1 overall record and a 4-4-0 mark in league play. VMI fell to 6-10-1 and 3-4-1.
Charleston opened the scoring midway through the opening half when Files scored his first goal from about 12 yards out after VMI goalie John Simmons misplayed a CofC shot with the ball eventually finding Files' foot in front of the goal with 22:42 left in the first half.
VMI dominated the early portion of the second half scoring twice in the first 17:06 of the half to take the lead.
Austin Williams goal at the 55:26 mark on an assist from Ross Davis tied the game at 1-1. Ryan King found the back of the net on an assist from Patrick Szvetitz at the 62:06 mark giving the Keydets a 2-1 advantage.
Charleston tied it with 24:26 remaining on a penalty kick goal by Martino. Files scored an unassisted goal for the game-winner with 10:25 remainingn in the contest.
For the game the Cougars held a 13-10 edge in shots and a 4-3 margin in saves.
Both teams are in action next week in the 2001 Southern Conference Tournament at Patriots Point Field. The SoCon Tournament is slated for next Thursday, Nov. 15, through Sunday, Nov. 18.
