WILMINGTON, N.C. – The College of Charleston men's soccer team fell 2-1 to #24 UNCW on Saturday night in Wilmington to conclude the regular season.
The Cougars controlled majority of possession in the opening 45 minutes of action, taking four shots compared to just one from the Seahawks as the teams entered the break scoreless.
On just their second shot attempt of the game, UNCW took a 1-0 lead in the 50th minute with a strike to the upper 90. Less than a minute later, the Seahawks converted on a penalty kick to take a 2-0 advantage.
The Cougars sent a flurry of shots to the UNCW keeper in the final 15 minutes of play and could not connect until Dan Toulson weaved through the entire UNCW defense to put the Cougars on the board. The goal marked Toulson's first of the season.
Charleston took 14 shots, their second most of the season, compared to eight for UNCW.
The Cougars, now 7-4-4 overall and 2-3-3 in conference play, will wait for the conclusion of the remaining CAA regular season contests to determine their postseason fate.
