#articleRelated { display: none !important; } The College of Charleston lost to Appalachian State, 1-0, on a penalty kick Sunday afternoon in Boone, NC. The College of Charleston falls to 11-6-2, 5-3 on the season while Appalachian improves to 13-4-1, 6-2.

Visibility was hampered by thick fog that covered and obscured the entire field, and although the teams combining for 13 shots in the first period, neither squad was able to connect for a score.

The scoring drought continued throughout the second half of play, and even though Appalachian took 19 shots for the game and Charleston took nine, regulation ended in a 0-0 tie.

Mellor's penalty kick occured at the 104:16 mark of the second overtime. It was his sixth goal of the season.

The Cougars are in action again when they host the Southern Conference tournament at Patriots Point Field in Mount Pleasant, SC. First round games of the tournament will be played Thursday and Friday, November 14th and 15th. The semifinals will be played on Saturday, Nov. 16th, while the tournament champion will be crowned after the championship game on Sunday, Nov. 17th.
