Furman falls to 3-6-3 overall and 1-1-2 in the Southern Conference, while the Cougars improve to 7-3-2 and 3-2.
Before tonight the Paladins had not lost a Southern Conference match since Nov. 8th, 1998 when they fell, 1-0, to UNC Greensboro.
The first half saw both teams shoot the ball well, but unable to convert any to goals until the 31:54 mark when Jeff Files took the cross from Tony Meyers and sent the ball into the back of the net.
The second half saw much of the same for both squads as neither team capitalized on shooting opportunities until 79:51 when Ricardo Diaz Granados headed in the low cross from Sage Martina for the score to take the game to 2-0.
Troy Lesesne led the Cougar effort with three shots, while it was Josh Villalobos, with four shots, who led the Paladins. Keith Wiggans picked up three saves for Charleston, while Furman's Alex Maslow had one.
The College of Charleston out-shot Furman 13-7 for the contest and carried the 5-3 edge in corner kicks.
The Cougars travel to Wofford Oct. 18th for a 6:00 PM match while the Paladins host South Carolina in a 2:00 PM match Oct. 19th.
