#articleRelated { display: none !important; } Aubrey Florence and Becky Witkop both placed in the top 30 to lead the College of Charleston men's and women's cross country teams to ninth place finishes at the Southern Conference championships held Saturday at the Baker Sports Complex in Davidson, NC. Chattanooga won the men's 8K event, while Davidson picked up the win in the women's 5K run.

Florence finished with a time of 27:31.99 for 26th, while John Gillum ran at 28:17.37 for 43rd place. Nahtan Bergerson placed 50th with a 28:38.37 and Ben Phillips timed in at 28:59.93 for 58th. Running in 60th was Jonathon Atkinson with a time of 29:09.83 and in 70th was Joseph O'Neil with his 30:04.24. Placing 72nd was Doug Moody with a time of 30:20.44 and rounding out the Cougar effort was George Tozer, who ran 8K in 31:35.36 for 80th.

Witkop ran the 5k in 20:06.34 to finish 23rd, while Kathryn Boettcher placed 43rd with her 20:43.16 time. In 47th place was Elizabeth Rose with her time of 20:49.30 and in 56th was Kelly Sandler with a mark of 21:14.24. Right behind her in 57th was Kimberly Kingston with a 21:18.11 time. Meredith Craig rounded out the women with a 68th-place 21:58.64 time.

On the men's side Chattanooga averaged 26:17.47 and totaled 52 points for the win. Coming in second was Appalachian State with 59 points and in third was East Tennessee State with 98 points. Charleston averaged 28:31.50 and totaled 223 points.

Davidson totaled 75 points and averaged 19:45.98 for the win on the women's side. Furman placed second with 76 points and Appalachian State ended the day third with 80 points. Charleston tallied 214 points and averaged 20:50.23 in the 5K.
