The Wildcats got on the board when Cass Baltz's shot from 20 yards was saved by Cougar goalkeeper Keith Wiggans but the ball bounced out in front of him and Hansell was waiting. The SoCon Tournament MOP blasted one into the right corner of the net for the game's only goal.
The Cougars appeared to have tied the game up with 12:30 to go as Tony Myers found the back of the net but was called offside. Davidson goalkeeper Bart Creasman recorded five saves and recorded the championship game shutout for the Wildcats.
The Cougars now await word about a possible NCAA Tournament at-large selection. The selection show will be held tomorrow at 3:30 PM on ESPNNEWS. Keith Wiggans, Jeff Files and Drew Cavanagh were named to the All-Tournament team.
