Appalachian State ends the season at 10-7-3, while the College of Charleston improves to 15-5-1. The 15 wins is the most for the Cougars since they won 19 in 1994.
The Cougars advance to the tournament finals for the second year in a row.
The Cougars jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the 27th minute of the first half as senior midfielder Ben Hollingsworth dribbled down the middle and found the back of the net.
During the second half the Cougars defense held the Mountaineers scoreless and went on to the 1-0 victory.
"It was a hard fought match," said Head Coach Ralph Lundy. "Our boys were very well organized; they had to be, Appalachian State is a very good team. Hollingsworth had another amazing goal for us tonight."
Tony Myers led the Cougars with three shots, while Keon McPherson led the Mountaineers with two. Charleston out-shot Appalachian State 11-3, with the Mountaineers coming away with the 4-1 edge in saves.
With the win the College of Charleston advances to Sunday's championship were it will face the fourth-seeded Davidson Wilcats at 1:00 at Blackbaud Stadium. It will mark the second time in as many years these two teams have squared off on Daniel Island for the chance to go to the NCAA tournament. Last year, Davidson edged Charleston, 1-0, to earn the bid. The Wildcats earned a spot in the championship match with the 2-1 upset over top-ranked UNC Greensboro in the first match of the semifinal.
