The Cougars improve to 17-5-1, while the Gamecocks end their season at 12-7-1.
Both teams came out firing in the first half with several scoring opportunities coming on both ends of the field. It would be the Cougars who scored first at 26:20 when South Carolina fouled about 22 yards to set up a free kick by the Cougars. Troy Lesesne sailed the ball inside the net to a waiting Darren Toby, who sent it past the goalkeeper into the top right of the goal.
The Cougars scored again, this time in the second half at the 61:07 mark as Jeremy Gold broke away and finessed the ball past the lone defender to go up against the goalkeeper who attempted to steal the ball away. Gold was able to pass Guzan and run the ball in to take the Cougars up 2-0.
The Gamecocks would not give up and cut the deficit in half at the 73:06 mark when Ayo Akinsete sent the ball just to the right of the left post past Keith Wiggans from about 12 yards out off a Jose Ramos assist.
The Cougars answered right back at 79:37 when Toby passed to Gold who passed right back to Toby who scored from about 10 yards out to take the team up 3-1.
Just three minutes later at 82:40 USC scored again, this time from Ryan Deter to bring the score to 3-2 in favor of the Cougars. That would be as close as USC could get with the final score ending up 3-2.
